It is difficult to conceive how the knowledge became widespread that man is the physical body. I think it basically arose out of the Reformation, and the Enlightenment that followed. This in turn is due to the fact that for thousands of years our religious teachers have not really been able to offer any convincing explanation for the nature of man.

No one has been able to give an intelligible yet simple explanation. All through history from the Greek philosophers down to the present religious organisations, it has all been a confused tangle so much so that most seekers have given up the quest for knowledge and have concluded that these things cannot be known and as a result have lapsed back into former faults which is nothing but the ardent pursuit of material gain and bodily pleasures.

Many human beings got discouraged when over millennia they asked these questions only to be faced with indifference and pitiable attempts. One indeed must commend those who tried to tackle these questions but in so doing they used their intellects instead of opening themselves to the knowledge which can only flow from above. The reason for our failures once again must lie at the door of the intellect.

Once again we use a tool which is utterly unsuitable for these investigations because they go beyond its ambit. These matters are not earthly matters. The answers to them will not be found on earth and as a result using the intellect which is born of this earth will never lead to a solution. Is it then surprising that after millennia of investigations all we can arrive at is the answer that man is the physical body and that when we die then that is it? Not even the most ardent sceptic believes this. If he thinks that he does he only deceives himself and has just revealed the shallowness of his thinking. Let him step forward and declare that he has attained conviction in his heart of this matter. And yet he dares to teach others. He will have to answer for every single human being that he has led astray.

Man is spirit and for quite obvious reasons. That is the realm of his origin. He originated there as an unconscious spirit germ in need of self development which he cannot achieve under the tremendous pressure afforded by the proximity of God. For this among other reasons, the material worlds were created as a training ground in order for him gradually to mature. In order for him to experience the earth however, he needs a body of the same substance as this earth with all the sense organs this can afford.

Without this body, he will not be in a position to experience the earth fully. Therefore, as human beings on earth we must cherish our bodies as an instrument we need for our short stay of experience which experience cannot be passed over. The sojourn on earth is absolutely vital as an important link in our spiritual upward striving. Maltreatment of the body in whatever form will weaken it and as a result the radiation from the body which the spirit needs for a full experiencing becomes feeble and the spirit as a consequence will not be able to unfold properly here.

In addition, the spirit may sever itself from this body earlier than normal, cutting short the life span and also automatically curtailing the level of experience that the individual needs. He would then have to relive its earth life. All this is time wasting and adds to the ever present risk of adding more karma upon karma until man becomes entangled in a deep web, becoming more and more confused, and at the end not really knowing the purpose of life. Many of us have already reached this point. Many of us through this negligence have wasted so many earth lives.

Many of us even risk our lives in some pursuit or the other which we will have to account for sometime. Pursuits that damage the body mostly arising out of vanity will exert a very heavy toll. Again it is this pernicious intellect that drives men to this. We must at last come to recognise this enemy that lies within, lying in wait to ruin every man. Keeping him down and preventing him from listening to the voice within.

Human beings receive the physical bodies they need for the duration of their earth lives. It does not really matter whether the body is in some way disabled or not. We will still be able to achieve what it is we are allowed to achieve provided we can discover what it is that we are to achieve. This however, is just the problem. Every human being has a task and a talent which he is meant to discover for himself. But then not many of us are able to find out what they are because this requires that we listen within to ourselves and not to our brains, our intellects. It will be difficult for many people because they will not be able easily to differentiate between the intellect and the intuition.

The reason for this is because over many incarnations, many of us have never used our intuitions and as a result it lies atrophied within us. Our spirits are asleep because we have never roused it. We have replaced it with our brains and as such we will find it very hard not to listen to our brains because there is not much else to listen to.

We demand proof not realising that we are the ones who have rendered ourselves incapable of recognising God in His Infinite ways. Why should God give us proof? What arrogance lies in this fact alone. We have distorted ourselves through our own free wills and we now expect God to correct our distortions. We deliberately plucked out our own eyes, numbed our fingers, deafened ourselves, killed all our senses, then we ask people around us to provide proof of their existence?

Disability is not an injustice. It is what disabled people need for some reason or the other to help pay some karmic debt or carry out some task. If it is accepted good will always come of it. We inherit physical disabilities from our parents but it is because we need these disabilities. There is no injustice in this Creation which is the Work of God. The reasons are due to some entanglements which have manifested in this way and for the individuals to recognise and free themselves from them.
