Free Will

The purpose of this section is to examine how man has used the free will to determine the state in which he finds himself today. What however is free will? The free will is not the will dictated by the intellect when it indicates a direction to follow. The free will goes far beyond this and it is not something to be found on earth. Since man is spirit, then the free will must be looked for close to his origin because it is a gift given to him when he was created.

Man as we know has the ability to choose his own ways but this he does with his spirit not with the intellect. But mark us that we are here not talking about superficial decisions, but decisions which are made by his spirit and therefore have a deep impact upon him. We are here talking about things that go far beyond the narrow confines of the earth. Even in our seemingly superficial earthly decisions much comes in which had one way or the other been previously determined by the spirit. Take for example our professions; these are the result of former decisions that we are not often conscious of at the present moment. If today I am a lawyer, the chances are that I did not make this decision at a moment's notice on my arrival on earth. It would have been seen to be the best profession for me by my spiritual guidance something guaranteeing my further spiritual progress taking into consideration my abilities and my own predisposition. top

Free will therefore is something that is fundamentally anchored in the spirit because this is actually the living part of man and it is the one that makes these decisions. Free will however can only be talked about ironically with one who has not involved himself in so much evil that he has lost what he once had. It can only be talked about and considered in situations where the human spirit is still standing aright in the Light.

Free will is the ability to choose one's ways and follow one's path within the possibilities provided for in Creation. Going outside of what is contained in Creation for the development of human spirits leads to a loss of this free will. It means this free will has not been used for what it was supposed to have been used for; it has been used in the wrong direction and as a result can no longer function as a free will. Free will is to be used to choose how we want to develop our abilities, what abilities to develop first and how to attract the necessary power for the development of this ability. The human spirit has many abilities and because he is of the spirit, he has a magnetic nature which would otherwise attract all the power and radiation in Creation in a wild confusion; and just because of this quality, he has been given the free will to choose which of these radiation in Creation he wants to attract, which radiation will stimulate the ability which he carries within himself in an undeveloped form.

Instead of attracting all the radiation in a wild confusion and thereby never achieving anything for himself because it is impossible to develop all his abilities at the same time, he is therefore, with the gift of the free will allowed to develop his abilities in a sequential orderly manner. One can now see that there can be no question of using the free will outside of this. To use the free will therefore to do evil is not to use the free will at all because when free will is spoken of it is only given for the orderly development of abilities. At best this decision to do evil can be called stubbornness, self will.

In talking however strictly about the use of the free will as such, then we must confine ourselves to cases where it is being used for the purpose it was given. There are radiations of virtues that stretch down through the substantiate beings. Through the radiations of our spirits we can make connections with these radiations and this is one application of the free will. The individual is free to choose at anytime how he intends to use this ability to develop himself and how he is going to choose cannot be determined beforehand. He is free because there is nothing that is influencing his decision in a particular direction. He is not being forced to make a particular decision and choose a particular path through a characteristic that he has cultivated within himself and which he cannot control. top

These characteristics which we cultivate within us and which prove so strong that they determine in which direction our decisions will follow are what make us lose our free wills. In short, with these characteristics, we cannot say that we are free in our basic decisions and it can always be predicted how we will decide because we are being influenced by something outside the personal. Through these our propensities therefore we become slaves, we are no more free, we are being influenced. To possess free will therefore, is to be free from evil, to be free to develop oneself the way one sees fit, something which will not be possible if one was burdened with guilt. This guilt will always influence in the wrong direction and therefore prevent a real development of abilities. We will always do the wrong thing burdening ourselves further and thereby cutting ourselves off from the possibility of developing our abilities through attracting those above mentioned radiations from the substantiate beings. Through our guilt we cut ourselves off from them. Therefore as human beings we remain restricted in our abilities because we could not develop them due to lack of access to what could help in this direction.

Many of us are so deeply entangled in evil that there can be no question of a free will as far as we are concerned. We are completely dominated by our propensities which determines our actions and which cut us completely off from Light streams. We are nothing but human machines obeying without questioning the dictates of our propensities. We are completely cut off from using the free will to attract and choose from the household of creation those abilities we want to develop. Since the free will is to be used to choose ways within the Light, he who is not attuned to the Light cannot be said to possess free will in the real sense of the word. Therefore our free wills have not been properly used for the recognition of God because it has not been used for the development of our inherent abilities.
